This year Windmill Green had the honour of being nominated for Building of the Year at the 2019 Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce’s Property & Construction Awards.
One of just five properties shortlisted for the accolade, Windmill Green was chosen for a myriad of reasons, including our strong focus on the ‘redevelopment’ aspect of the build - recycling pillars and columns and retaining the original structure, keeping the heritage of the building intact - and the green credentials that have secured us the title of ‘most sustainable building in Manchester’, including:
- Outstanding BREEAM rating
- The use of the most innovative solar PV panels ever installed in the UK
- Cycle Score Platinum accreditation
- The largest known living wall in Manchester
- On-site apiary
Shortlisted alongside us were buildings in the education, residential and leisure sectors, including The Pavilion – located next door to us and housing The Ivy – and Roof Gardens, a new residential development in Castlefield that has reimagined the classic townhouse into a community-driven estate.
As part of the shortlisting process, FORE’s Associate Director Aurélien Collignon spoke to the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce to discuss the building's unique characteristics. Take a look:
